Journalism

 Hello friends

" The most important sentence in any article is the first one. If it doesn’t induce the reader to proceed to the second sentence, your article is dead.” — William Zinsser, On Writing Well

Welcome to my blog. Here I am going to talk about Journalism. This task is assigned by Vaidehi ma'am. Here in which we are supposed to write about Lead writing and Feature writing. Here we have to write an example of Lead writing or Feature writing.

So first we have to know about Lead writing and Feature writing. So let's see…...

As we know that Journalism is the production and distribution of reports on current events based on facts and supported with proof or evidence.

Lead writing  :--

Two types of leads

There are two main types of leads and many, many variations thereof. These are:

The summary lead

Most often found in straight news reports, this is the trusty inverted-pyramid lead we learned about in Journalism 101. It sums up the situation succinctly, giving the reader the most important facts first. In this type of lead, you want to determine which aspect of the story — who, what, when, where, why and how — is most important to the reader and present those facts.

A creative or descriptive lead :

This can be an anecdote, an observation, a quirky fact or a funny story, among other things. Better suited to feature stories and blog posts, these leads are designed to pique readers’ curiosity and draw them into the story. If you go this route, make sure to provide broader detail and context in the few sentences following your lead.

Thank you.........

ELT - 2 : What is Web 2.0 ?

 Hello friends

Here I want to talk about the English Language Teaching. In which time technology  is useful to learn any particular language. Here I want to talk about the English language. As we know that we are living in the age of Technology. So what was the role of Technology in Education? Yes of course in Corona pandemic the situation happens is that without technology we can't imagine education.

I think with the help of technology we can get more and explore more and more. There are some of the videos that are very interesting to watch and to understand also. This is my academic blog writing. As part of the paper of English language Teaching. So here I am Writing about what is the main message of the video and that is consideration in the context of technology in education and also English language Teaching.

What is Web 2. 0 ?

Web 2.0  refers to websites that emphasize user-generated contentease of useparticipatory culture and interoperability (i.e., compatible with other products, systems, and devices) for end users. The term was invented by Darcy DiNucci in 1999 and later popularized by Tim O'Reilly and Dale Dougherty at the O'Reilly Media Web 2.0 Conference in late 2004.

Web applications that can be included in Web 2.0 are…

  • Google Docs
  • Flickr
  • YouTube
  • Wikis
  • Blog
  •  Facebook
  • Twitter
  • Podcasting

The major change between web 1.0 and 2.0 about content sharing. Web 2.0 allows every individual to create their own information or material or share it on public platforms without any deep knowledge of Web designing and Publishing Skills. It enables one to collaborate and Communicate their work with others.

David Crystal's views on language and ELT

 Hello friends

He has also written plays and poetry. He has published several books for the general reader about linguistics and the English language, which use varied graphics and short essays to communicate technical material in an accessible manner.

Video 6: David Crystal: The Effect of New Technologies on English :

Here In this video we come to know about  David Crystal's ideas about English language or any language of the world. Nowadays we  don't keep a space to change the language. There are two reasons behind the expense of the English. First reason is the Internet.  Because of the internet the language is very quickly changing, new words spread very quickly. Second reason is the globalization of English language. There is not one kind of language, but in the world various types of English language exist.

So what is the main point of David Crystal is that ready for change.

And also David Crystal mentioned that : Forget the old notion that there is just one kind of thing that you would want to call correct English.

He was also said that teaching any language of the world is the toughest task.

Video 7: David Crystal: The Biggest Challange for English Language Teachers in the times of Internet:

In this video  we come to know that technology has affected language a lot because of the Internet and Globalization. So what was the stand of David Crystal's  is that "Accepting changing". We have to accept the change of language. Our language is different then the language of our teachers. We have to accept any language of the world, each and every accent of the language. How technology affects the language. We have a new variety of the English language. Starting from the printing press, Newspapers, Telephone, blog, Facebook, YouTube and Twitter etc. Each and every technology comes up with new types and style of the language.

David Crystal also talks about prompts in various applications. Various prompt like what are you doing , what is in your mind.

Video 8: David Crystal: Texting is 'Good' for English Language

Texting is good for language. So the myth is that texting is done by children. And also this message with the abbreviation entirely. These messages  it's invented by the kids. They're modern things. So how can texting be good for language ?

David Crystal presents his views in a very lite mode, but it is worth noting things. He was giving various arguments.

English language Teaching 2 : Video Resources

 Hello friends !

So let's begin with   the first video….

  • Video - 1: Sir Ken Robinson: Changing Paradigm

This was the interesting video. The main point that is discussed in this video is Economic and cultural. If we think about education then  ideally we believe that education is for humanity and also a way of darkness to the light. But that is only an ideal thinking, truly the education is for stable economical conditions. Ken Robinson raised a question about How do we educate our children to take their place in the economics of the 21st century ?

Another is how we can teach the cultural identity of people to the children. He also made a point that the current education  system was designed and conceived for a different age. The idea of public education is based on two factors: Economic and Intellectual. He was also telling that this model has caused chaos. In which we come to know that students become like customers. He was also talking about diverge thinking. It's an ability to creative thinking and creativity. There is not only a linear or convergent but a multiple answers possible. Education system makes a dumber generation.

  • Video 2: Sugata Mitra: School in the cloud- SOLE

This video is about Sugata Mitra, it was amazing in which we found some of the very interesting ideas about education and learning. At the starting point he was talking about where the school learning came from ? Of course that is from Victorian people. The education system has become a bureaucratic administrative machine. Because of the empire the Victorian wants a people who can read, write, good handwriting, multiplication in mind. But now a time empire is gone. But the system of education is the same.  So Sugata Mitra had questioned the system. He also talks about self learning. He had done interesting research in the education process. He was talking about the current education system, and also what should be the system of learning. How technology is helpful to the education system. According to him now is the time we should not need to follow the system that is going on in our education system.

  • Video 3: Sugata Mitra: Future of Learning

In this video also we find that the same point like video no. 2. This is about reinventing the education system and also the future of learning and education.

  • Video 4:Salman Khan: Let's use video to reinvent education

This  video is about  which way the idea provokes in the mind of Salman khan, to develop such a platform like Khan Academy.  In this video we get to Know the journey of the whole platform. How it started and all those things. We also come to know that is how this platform is different from the actual classroom. It's something innovative and interesting.  There we come to know that all the hypotheses that Teachers and students have that are broken. Because in Khan academy we can see they taught beautifully each and every subject. They covered everything from basic arithmetic, all the way to vector calculus. He started from the YouTube videos. And he also talked about some of the comments that he got on YouTube. That is also amazing.  So the point is that learning through videos is helpful to students, because they watch videos anytime wherever they want. If they want to repeat they can repeat it. That is the benefit of learning from videos.

Salman Khan also differentiates  the learning outcome of the traditional learning and learning from Khan academy. This academy encourages students to master over the specific subjects. They also give mastery points. How consequently looking at the students' learning process. There is also a concept of peers Teaching to peers. The concept is like let's teach for mastery not for test scores.

Video 5: Marc Prensky: Digital Natives, Digital Immigrants

Here in this video we come to know what Digital Natives and Digital Immigrants are.

These are the characteristics of the Digital Natives : Multi-tasking, parallel thinking, Multimedia, Multi resources. They spent their most of time with mobiles, T.V, Video Game and all the things.

In opposition of the Digital Natives there are Digital immigrants.  Single task, Sequential thinking , limited  resources are the characteristics of the Digital immigrants. Here in this video Marc Prensky differentiate both of them.

Digital Natives think and talk (language) totally different from the digital immigrants.

Technology and Education  : ELT :2 Warm up Session

Hello friends

Welcome to my blog. Thai is the first task given by Dr. Dilip Barad sir in the new year of 2021. This is the warm up task for our English language Teaching paper 2. This is quite an interesting task to do. Here we have to think about a major issue of the 21st century that is Teachers versus Technology. Can Teachers be replaced by technology if yes then to what extent. What things Teachers have to do so they can not be replaced by technology.

Then we have to watch three videos in which two advertisements and one video is about corruption in India.

So let's discuss in detail.

First of all I would like to talk about the classroom discussion on the Teachers and technology.

If we are looking for a question that can be replaced by technology or not ? The origin of the question is itself an answer that something or at least extends Teachers replaced by technology. As we know that in this modern age, technology is replacing almost everything. Nowadays we don't need papers and pens to write.  But the software can be used to write on, we do not need physical books because of the advent of e-books and PDFs. So now we have time that if Teachers are to best out for best then and then Teachers can't be replaced by technology.

⭐What shall Teachers have to do so they are not replaceable by Technology :

  1. Human skills and ethics :

  2. Teachers are  able to connect the things critically with the current scenario of our world :

  3. Teachers are able to understand the non verbal behaviour of students : ( emotions )

  4. Social learning :

  5. Critical thinking and interpretation.

If Teachers want to can't replaced by technology then they should be very updated with each and every aspect of life. Now in this modern era Teachers should do maximum use of technology to interact with the students. If Teachers are not allowed technology in the classroom then that type of Teachers can be replaceable by others.

In this image we can see that the two different parts one is about using technology and other is about technology integration. Here we can understand that only using technology is not enough. But Technology should be integrated 8n our day to day life. Then that is useful for learners. We can see that the differentiation between using technology and technology integration.

Videos :-----

First video is about an Internet baby. Which can see the baby who is born, at a moment who was the knower of technology and using technology. He was googling for How to cut the umbilical cord ? How to get freedom ? But what I have a question about is whether even getting freedom technology is helpful. So we can see the importance of technology.

Second video is about idea advertisement.  In which we find that those who live in rural areas, they don't get education because there are no schools. But the idea we find in this ad is about online learning. That is now we have practiced it because of the Corona pandemic. At the end of the video we can see that lashmi who belongs to the rural areas never goes to school. Then she also got a gold medal. That is the question. It is an advertisement so there are no problems in online education but in real life we have a lot of problems in online education.

Third video is one of the episodes of Satyamev Jayate. In which we can find the story of Sanjay Sahni. How he was doing the great job with the help of technology. And also we can say how corruption operates in India.
